When the members of the Haliburton Highlands Guild of
Fine Arts held their annual Members' Show at the Rails' End Gallery
in Haliburton . A number of scholarships were presented to members
both old and new.
The Ethel Curry Award For Excellence was presented
to Cedric Butz for his entry - a mahogany guitar. |
|
"This is my first year as a member of the guild,"
said guitar maker Cedric Butz. "I have been making guitars
for several years." Butz, had two guitars on display at
the opening. His other entry, the "Ernest" guitar,
he made for his high school music teacher. Made from local wood
including cherry, basswood and maple, Butz's work is sleek in
design, perhaps gained from his many years working with his parents'
Windy Ridge Studios.
The young artisan says he likes building classical
guitars and is ready to take commissions. |
